about me...

Since there are only about two million blogs on the web, I thought I should satisfy all my fan by adding my own. Actually, you could probably blame it on Glenn Reynolds since his terrific blog really inspired me.

But this isn't exactly new to me. In 1984 I started a BBS in the NYC area called The Arena. It ran on an Apple 2+ with six floppy drives, two ram-disks, 64K memory, and a blisteringly fast 1200 baud AppleCat modem. It was dedicated to the gay community and was advertised in the Village Voice back page, and elsewhere. Mostly it was a personal ads type BBS but also had several other message boards. In addition, I wrote a daily editorial about current events or other random thoughts. Some might consider that almost the first blog... In October of 1985 a guy stuck a knife in me a few times. By the time I returned home the board was down, I was bankrupt from medical bills, and The Arena BBS died.

I really don't have a bio. I've worked in such diverse fields as sales, computer support, a club jock (disco dj) for years in N.Y., a postman, and almost ten years in construction. These days I work for a medium size high-end furniture company. Probably the same strange (directionless) trip many of you have taken. So Alphecca is my one chance for immortality in the archives of Google.

Some say I have an unhealthy interest in politics, news, and guns. So you'll see that reflected here.

Politically I'm all over the place but I don't like most Democrats and Republicans (and their bought-and-paid-for hypocrisy) and I wish to hell a viable third or 4th party would appear. Am I conservative? Probably, but it depends on the issue. More likely I'm a hard-core small "l" libertarian but they always field such uninspiring candidates that I never vote for them.

I support civil-unions but think the marraige thing for gays is ho-hum. Yeah, it would be nice but it's not one of my priorities...

I am repelled by most gay-rights organizations and think they do more harm than good. It would be nice if they stopped assuming that all of us (gays) march lock-step with the ultra-leftist Democrats. I've always said that ten percent of any "group" ruins it for the other 90%. I've never marched in a gay-pride parade because I don't want to identify with most of the types who do. You know, the drag-queens, guys wearing nothing but thongs, etc. I guess that makes me a "self-hating homocon." I won't be writing much about gay issues because most of those issues bore me and will certainly bore you.

I'm a two term president of a gun club filled with what coastal elites and lock-step liberals would call "red-necks" but in fact they are a great bunch of folks. And none of them give a hoot that I'm gay. That should tell you my position about the second amendment. Actually, I support ALL of the amendments and wish they weren't being eroded so quickly. I voted for G.W. because I couldn't stand Al Gore. I don't like Vermont's Jeffords and Leahy. Bernie Sanders... Well, I don't vote for him but I admire the consistancy of his positions over the years. I voted four times for Howard Dean for Governor because during those years he was great on 2A issues, but I really don't know who I'm voting for in 2004 for president. Certainly he's better than any other Democrat running although if Joe Leiberman weren't so anti-gun... Bush does not impress me all that much but given 9/11 and such, who really knows how any of these other wannabe's would actually have responded. I want Glenn Reynolds for President!

Update: Obviously Kerry is now the presumed nominee; I won't be voting for him...

War with Iraq? I still don't know.
